Significant Event Into A Total Failure at ZU (Extra)

By Shurouq Lashkri

Zayed University students had the privilege of meeting the Emirati writer and director Mohammed Hassan Ahmed and his fellow directors and actors on Sunday March 27, 2011 in a special gathering to discuss their famous movie “Sabeel” among other movies.

Zayed University promised its students a first experience of cinematic atmosphere on its campus, but the event was rather unsuccessful. The event was not a very successful “first experience of cinematic atmosphere” as the planning was poor, and the artistic guests were very uncomfortable, and perhaps intimidated by the audience. The event was delayed about half an hour due to the late arrival of the Vice President of Zayed University, Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, and his guests. Once they entered the blue Auditorium, and were seated, the second part of the movie Wind started playing as the first part would not play, due to some technical issues! After Wind ended they continued to play the second movie Sabeel. When Sabeel ended the Emirati author alongside his crew were asked to stand up in front of the audience and introduce themselves to them.

When answering questions, Mohammed Hassan seemed very serious and that was something unexpected from him as a personality that has done so much, and is used to the spotlight. At the end of the day the event was not as productive as it was hoped or perceived.

The event was set to play the award winning movie Sabeel, Wind, and Tunbak; and then give guests the chance to speak about their movies in a panel of discussions with the students.
